Isabella is a 54-year-old woman from Kenya who lives life "energetic, happy, and independent". As a devoted mother of seven, her life revolves around raising her children, farming, and taking care of her animals. Her favorite meal, githeri with tea, brings her simple joy amidst her hard work.
Growing up in Embu County, Kenya, Isabella has gone about her life enduring the hardships of water scarcity. "My village has an enduring water shortage that made us walk for over 2 miles just to get clean water," she shared. This grueling routine consumed her family’s time and resources, often leaving them without basic necessities. "We didn’t even have shoes to wear," she recalls.
"Desperation would sometimes make us fetch dirty water from the nearby school’s dam just to have something small to use," she remembers.
Despite these numerous challenges, Isabella dreamed of a better life for her children. More opportunities, better health, and brighter futures. Then, clean water changed everything.
Hope arrived when we drilled a deep borehole at Isabella's community, bringing clean water to nearly 3,000 individuals.
With clean water accessible nearby, Isabella not only shoulders fewer burdens but also savors more precious time with her children and enjoying githeri with tea.
"The borehole is providing a reliable source of clean water for our community and our children. We can farm our lands without the dependency on rainfall," Isabella shared, her eyes lighting up with hope. "For me, access to clean water means more time on my hands".
Isabella's journey is a testament to the transformative power of clean water, highlighting her resilience and the profound impact of your life-changing support. Thanks to people like you, we can continue to build a world where access to clean water is not just a dream but a reality for all.
