Edwin is an 18-year-old from Kenya with a big dream: to become an engineer.
He describes himself as “ardent, enthusiastic, and reliable”, reflecting the very determination he brings to his education and his vision for the future. But before clean water reached his school, something as simple as staying hydrated and healthy was a daily challenge.
For Edwin and more than 1,000 students at his school, accessing water meant leaving campus and walking in search of it. The water they found was often unsafe to drink. It was brown and murky, but they had no other choice.
“We used to walk for water, and the water would be very unsafe to consume,” Edwin shared.
But with clean water, everything changed for him.
Today, clean water is available right at school, giving students back valuable time that was once spent searching for water. Instead of worrying about where their next safe drink would come from, students can focus on what matters most: learning, growing, and pursuing their dreams.
Edwin shared, “This project has greatly reduced the time we spend searching for water, provided safe drinking water, and has reduced hygiene-related diseases".
The impact extends beyond the classroom. With reliable access to water, students and the wider school community can practice better sanitation for a healthier, brighter future.
"For me, access to clean water means important access to better sanitation practices,” Edwin shared.
With clean water flowing at his school, Edwin now has more time and opportunity to focus on the future he imagines. One where he can turn his dream of becoming an engineer into reality.
