Stories of Strength
Angelina's Dream of a Greener Future

Spooky season is full of ghosts and ghouls. But for Angelina Mbithe, 48, in Kathonzweni, Kenya, the scariest part of daily life used to be something much more ordinary: finding safe water for her family.

Before our water project, Angelina collected water from unsafe rivers, sometimes buying it from distant neighbors when she needed to. The long walks were exhausting, the water often went untreated.

“Fetching water was difficult and tiring. Walking long distances sometimes left me too tired to complete other household activities,” Angelina shared.
Today, thanks to nearby water taps through WMO2H, Angelina and her community can collect clean water close to home. She can drink and cook with it without boiling it first, saving time while helping protect her three children from water-related illnesses.

“For me, access to clean water means...saving time and having safe water that I can collect and drink directly without boiling.”

And the impact doesn't stop at the water tap. With reliable water nearby, Angelina tends to her kitchen garden, growing fresh fruits and vegetables for her family throughout the year. Selling some of that produce helps her save money through her women’s group, pay school fees and meet other household needs.
Having fruit and vegetables available throughout the year means improving her family’s diet while spending less on food. These changes are about the future she's working so hard to build.

“My dream is to see my children grow well, find employment and become self-reliant, even when I am no longer there to support them. I also dream of seeing a greener Makueni where we help improve the climate and environment.”

That's what clean water makes possible. More time for family, healthier meals, new opportunities and the chance to dream bigger.

No tricks. Just what’s possible when communities have the resources to build healthier, more sustainable futures.
