Beyond the Game: Stan Verrett’s Decade-Long Advocacy for Nonprofit’s Life-Changing Clean Water Projects

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Laguna Beach, CA [October 2024] – In an inspiring convergence of sports and philanthropy, renowned ESPN SportsCenter anchor Stan Verrett has dedicated the past decade to advocating for With My Own Two Hands (WMO2H), a Southern California-based water charity focused on providing clean water in East Africa.

For ten years, Stan Verrett has been the charismatic host of WMO2H's annual fundraising gala and documentary screening event, raising awareness and vital funds for the organization’s mission. His commitment has helped draw attention to the urgent need for clean water and sustainable development in vulnerable communities.

Verrett’s unique position as an ESPN anchor has enabled him to spotlight WMO2H’s work on a global stage. Through his advocacy, he has connected the world of athletics with the powerful impact of philanthropy, inspiring fans and athletes alike to join the cause. Previous gala attendees have included sports icons such as NBA All-Stars Luol Deng and Blake Griffin, NFL Hall of Fame player DeMarcus Ware, Olympic champion skier Lindsey Vonn, and former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez.

In a heartfelt video shared at their recent fundraising gala, WMO2H announced the dedication of a newly drilled water borehole in Stan Verrett's name at a girl’s rescue center in Samburu County, Kenya. This borehole is set to provide clean, safe water to nearly 100 rescued girls and benefit a catchment area of 3,000 people. Exclusive footage from August 2023 captures the joy of the girls using the new water source, along with their heartfelt gratitude toward Verrett.

Scenes of resilience and hope are showcased as these girls thrive at the center, engaging in farming, playing, and singing—demonstrating the life-changing health and opportunities that access to clean water can provide.

One of the girls shared, “This water that they have brought to us is really clean. It is assisting us in drinking, cooking, washing clothes and giving to young ones. If Stan was here with us today, we’d say thank you and may god bless him wherever he is.”

Our partnership is a powerful reminder of the transformative potential of sports and philanthropy. As Stan Verrett continues to bridge these worlds with his charisma and commitment, WMO2H’s annual fundraiser transcends a typical gala—it becomes a celebration of our collective ability to transform lives around the world. We honor Stan Verrett’s legacy and the profound impact he has made for thousands across East Africa through water and agriculture.
